Torrey & Yasin: Madison Badger Farms Wedding

It was perhaps one of the hottest days this summer, but Torrey & Yasin had an absolutely gorgeous wedding at Badger Farms outside of Madison in spite of the heat.  I’m so grateful to have been part of their day!

Torrey’s veil has been worn by 3 generations of women on their wedding day – it was stunning.

Yasin didn’t look half bad in his tux:-)

Their “first look” before the ceremony was so incredibly sweet. I teared up while taking this photo- such a sap!

My favorite from the day.

Torrey, you were such a beautiful bride!

I’ve known Torrey’s family for 10 years, which is hard to believe.  Her youngest sister, Laurel, on the right was in elementary school when I first met Tor our freshmen year of college.  Now Laurel’s going to be a freshmen in the fall!  Crazy how time flies.

I couldn’t help posting this sweet moment between Torrey’s parents right before the ceremony – aren’t they adorable!?!

I loved that Torrey and her dad “danced” down the aisle — it was SO them.

Instead of the traditional sermon or message, they had friends share words of encouragement, and a reading from Yasin’s native Turkey.

I can assure you, there was not a dry eye during their vows.

Married!

Torrey’s sister Haley had quite the string of post-it notes for her speech…

see?

She even shared Yasin’s favorite dance move, which the bridal party happily demonstrated.  Loved this!

Yasin & Torrey thanked their guests, many who traveled quite a long ways for their wedding.

After dinner, the REAL party started – complete with glow-sticks, beach balls, and hats.   They definitely knew how to throw a party!

Congrats to you both!  Have a wonderful time in Turkey on your honeymoon!

Sneak Peek: Badger Farms Wedding

This past weekend was incredibly hot and steamy – 117 with the humidity!  That’s insane for Iowa.  I was lucky enough to be a few hours north in Madison, WI for the wedding of Torrey & Yasin, held at Badger Farms.  Even with the heat, they opted for their dream outdoor ceremony, and it was absolutely beautiful. They couldn’t have planned a more perfect, fun, and celebratory ceremony and reception.  Congrats to you both, and here’s one quick sneak peek for you to show Yasin’s family in Turkey.  More to come soon!

Summer Wedding in Grinnell: Clinton & Renae

They’ve waited quite a while for this day, and it was beautiful, wonderful, and completely joyous.  Celebrating Clinton & Renae’s wedding day was such an honor, thank you for allowing me to capture your day.  I’ve really enjoyed getting to know both of you!  I’m also incredibly grateful for the friendship I have with Clinton’s parents – they are the most caring people you’ll ever meet!

Their wedding day was kind of gray and stormy most of the day, but we were able to snag some great portraits outside even with the threat of rain.

This is my favorite photo of Renae from the entire day.  You look beautiful!

Right before the first look…

I loved the florals, as well as the different dresses Renae chose.  So fun!

Clinton & Renae had perhaps one of the quickest ceremonies I’ve ever been to – 12 minutes!  I had to work fast, but I snagged this sweet moment during the lighting of the unity candle.

Married!

How cool is this grooms cake!?!

Clinton’s grandparents won the “longest married” dance-off, and shared a brief spin around the floor with the newlyweds.  This moment was so special!

This one’s for you, Christa!

Congrats to the newlyweds!

KristinD - What a beautiful wedding and gorgeous photos!!! I’m still super jealous of your new camera! :) Very nice work!!

Susanne - You did such a fabulous job on this wedding! I adore the detail shots, especially that ring shot!!

Couture Rep Cards

Felicity’s rep cards arrived from the lab in record time (24 hours!) and I was so excited to see how they turned out.  There are a couple of different designs on the front, with info about how to contact me and book a session on the back.  She’ll be handing these out over the summer, so be on the lookout!

The back of the card has my email and website info on it.  If any senior brings in one of Felicity’s rep cards and books a session, you receive a free gift – a 3×3 accordion mini from your session.  You’ll also be entered in a drawing for some other fun prizes, so it’s a win win no matter what!

Brandy Jaggers - These turned out fabulous!!

The Ring Shot

When I’m not shooting weddings or portrait sessions, or happily blogging, I’m often practicing my shooting skills.  As a photographer and (somewhat of a) perfectionist, I always feel like there’s room for improvement.  I like pushing myself to be more creative, or to get better at getting the shot “right” in-camera.  Lately, I’ve been practicing flash photography and macro photography.  Macro photography is slightly tricky because it requires patience and a steady hand to get a sharp image.  Usually the depth of field is very narrow, so it’s pretty easy to miss focusing on the subject.  It took me a couple of tries, but with some practice, I was able to fire off these two of my wedding ring.

This was a fun idea I happened upon at a recent wedding – using a candle stick or bottom of a glass to balance the ring on!

I focused on the main diamond for this one.  If you look at the wood table the cork is resting on, at the very bottom you can see the tiny sliver that is actually in focus.  If I had moved even a centimeter closer, the whole thing would have been out of focus!  Crazy, right?

Susanne - Sooooooo cool! LOVE them both! Macro photography IS tricky. You totally nailed it on these!

Lena (Live Love Laugh Photos) - Beautiful shots Jennifer! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the corn one – so creative!

Brandy Jaggers - These are fantastic! I’d love to just be the “detail” shooter for a wedding photographer. Don’t so much care about being the main photographer, but I love the detail shots :)

High School Senior: Miranda

Miranda was my first senior for the class of 2012 for Grinnell High School, and it was a great portrait session!  Her session was back in early May, and we were lucky to have one of those perfect warm spring days.  We visited a few places around downtown Grinnell, and also took some photos near the pond at the Grinnell Country Club.  Towards the end, we were joined by her fiance, Brandon, and her dog Chevy.  Did I spell that right?  I’m honestly not sure!  Anyways, Miranda rocked her session and I hope she has a great senior year as she works super hard to graduate early!

I posted this one on facebook, but I had to add it again – I mean, who can resist such a cute dog?  Not me!

I love love LOVE this door with the brick.  I need to find more places like this around Grinnell and Newton – I’m always looking for funky urban locations.

This might be my favorite picture of Brandon & Miranda.  I know it’s not the typical smiling-with-eye-contact picture, but I love the connection it shows between the two, and that her “love” necklace is perfectly in focus.

When I saw Brandon a few weeks ago at their ordering appointment, I almost didn’t recognize him.  A few days after this session, he left for basic training and had shaved his head!   Apparently both of them miss his longer hair:-)

Thanks for a wonderful time, you two!

Susanne - Wowza! LOVE these! Gorgeous girl, too!!

Lena (Live Love Laugh Photos) - THese are really cool Jennifer! Love the super cool urban location!

Brandy Jaggers - Fabulous! Looks like such a fun session :)
