Avery

I’m continuing  to blog senior sessions from this fall – October was a busy time for me!

Avery’s session was actually a two-part session.  Part one involved a family heirloom of sorts – this classic corvette convertible!  Even though the sky broke out in a torrential downpour just as we were pulling up to our location for the session, we were able to get some amazing shots after the rain passed.  For any guy wondering if the two hour session is worth it, it definitely is!  Incorporate props, multiple locations, and other creative ideas; that’s how you get the personalized look for your senior portraits!

Avery’s mom suggested this location that I hadn’t seen before, and I love how it turned out!

Part two of Avery’s session was an early morning, right before school.  We headed out to the train tracks, and then into town at some urban locations in Grinnell.

Avery, thanks for a great time!  I’m so glad you love your portraits.  :-)

Stephanie S. - Sweet shots with the car! And did you use a filter for some of the photos? I love the look it gives them :) Especially on the first one!

Sparky - These are awesome! Love them!

Lauren: Grinnell High School Senior

One last blog post before Christmas!  I’m still working through blogging all of my fall sessions – there were quite a few!  I’ll be taking a vacation from Dec 28-January 8th (mountains full of white fluffy snow, here I come!) so if you contact me during that time, I’ll return your call or email when I return.

This senior session with Lauren was shot back in October.  When Lauren and I met for her consultation before her session, I had a feeling her session was going to be fabulous:-) Not only is her style absolutely spot on, be she is a complete natural in front of the camera.

We started her session exploring downtown Grinnell and finding some new looks for locations that are quite popular.

I love that we were able to use this chair in the alley – the fun, fresh, urban vibe definitely suits Lauren.

A quick change of location – I have to thank Lauren for trusting me with this one.  I was basically sitting on top of a dumpster in order to get this shot!

Lauren’s sister, Holly, joined us for the session. In fact, the whole family was there!  I always recommend bringing friends or family along.  You wouldn’t believe the number of families I work with for senior sessions who haven’t had a family portrait in YEARS.  I was so excited to grab this shot of Lauren and Holly, and even more enthusiastic when Lauren’s parents jumped in for one as well!

You ladies look gorgeous!

Lauren, thank you for a truly memorable session.  I’ll never forget you running to the cornfields in your prom dress as the sun was setting to get that one last shot!  It’s been such a joy to get to know your family, and I hope you have an awesome senior year!

Kim - Beautiful, the one you took from the Dumpster is gorgeous and absolutely worth it:)!

Jamie Rubeis - Love all of the bold color. Very pretty girl too.

Sparky - Gorgeous girl! I love the black and white image!

Robin - Beautiful young lady, I love the color and clarity in these!

Sandy - She’s gorgeous and so are your photos! Love the prom dress!

Grinnell High School Senior: Andy

I’m nearing the end of senior posts for the class of 2012!  For Andy’s session, he chose to take some of his senior portraits around his dad’s property, and it was the most perfect fall day you could ever ask for.

If you’re wanting gorgeous fall colors and beautiful weather, aim for the last week of September or first week of October – that seemed to be the golden window of opportunity this year, and I’m sure it will be the case next fall as well.

We headed over to Grinnell College for a few portraits as well.  The college is generally a pretty popular setting for senior photos, and after a while you start to notice the same backgrounds and settings in everyone’s portraits.  However this year Andy was the only senior that specifically requested portraits there.  Go figure!

Andy, thanks for an awesome session!  It was great to get to know you and your family, and I hope you have a wonderful senior year!

Grinnell High School Senior: Amanda

The parade of high school seniors continues!  For those who may be wondering, yes, I still shoot weddings:-) It just so happens that I had a flurry of senior sessions during October, and I’m not finally able to blog all of these.

You saw Tasha yesterday, and today you get to see Amanda, her twin sister.

We started with a few photos at the local library, since Amanda is a self-proclaimed book-nerd, which I totally love about her!

You saw a few of the shots of Amanda & Tasha together here, but here are a few more.  This first one is my favorite!  It may not be the perfect shot, but it captures the fun laughs and relationship that these sisters have.

Amanda sings and has a beautiful voice.  She brought along her music for a few photos, and we went for a more traditional and cute look…

And something totally fun:)

Thanks for a wonderful, session Amanda!

rachel - amanda & jen, i love the last one of amanda throwing her music in the air! awesome!

Grinnell High School Senior: Tasha

You already saw a few of Tasha’s senior portraits here for a double session with her twin sister Amanda (more on that tomorrow!)  Here are a few more from her session!  We started with an urban feel in downtown Grinnell…

Tasha was a little bit nervous at the beginning, but I think she looks fabulous and hides it well!

Next, we headed over to Lake Nyanza, which was a beautiful backdrop for some more natural photos of Tasha.

During Tasha’s pre-session consultation, one thing she specifically requested and said she had been dream of was photos by the railroad track.  Glad I could make that dream come true!  This is my favorite from this session:)

I hope you have a fabulous senior year, Tasha!

Katie & Bryan: Des Moines Country Club Wedding

It’s been almost two months since Katie & Bryan’s beautiful fall wedding, and I can still remember all of the joy and excitement that day!  Nothing is better than going back through “old” images and reliving such a beautiful array of moments.  Katie & Bryan were married in October at a Catholic ceremony, followed by a reception at Des Moines Golf & Country Club.  For this wedding, I was blessed to be assisting Allison as a second shooter.  I’ve had such a great time shooting with Allison this year, thank you so much for allowing me to assist you – it’s been wonderful!

Fair warning – this is a big share!  I had lots of favorites and it was super hard to choose!

We started the day at Salon de Vallon, a gorgeous French-inspired salon in West Des Moines.  Katie and all her bridesmaids got ready there, and it was the perfect setting to start the day.

I loved Katie’s shimmery dress – so beautiful!

Katie, getting all gussied up at the salon.

All throughout the day, Katie’s laugh was infectious!

We headed over to valley junction with the bridal party – I loved this old train!

Next, we went to the Des Moines Art Center for a few more photos.

Katie, you are truly beautiful!

Just before walking down the aisle…

My absolute favorite moment during almost every wedding is the vows.  It may sound cliched, but I love how you can just see the love people share by the way they look at each other during the vows.

Married!

So many gorgeous fall details for their reception!

My favorite cake shot from this year.

Congratulations Katie & Bryan!
